MOLAA EXPANSION HIGHLIGHTS

As the most visible and representative museum of contemporary Latin American art and culture in the United States, the renovated molaa will educate three times more visitors about the rich traditions of the Americas. Highlights of molaa’s renovation and expansion include:

Architectural Renovation: Designed by prominent Mexican architect, Manuel Rosen, the renovated molaa will reflect contemporary Latin American architecture and style. Two 40-foot angular arches will bear visual witness to the bridge that molaa provides to and from the Americas, while an expansive reflection pool will celebrate molaa’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Sculpture Garden: Visitors will enjoy molaa's celebrated public programs and cultural events in this new 15,000 square-foot space. Opening to the public in September 2005, the garden will exhibit monumental Latin American sculptures in a desert-influenced landscape. For more information about this space, click on Sculpture Garden.

Gallery Expansion: A new 3,000 square-foot gallery dedicated to the presentation of today's most cutting-edge Latin American art will be created, and our temporary exhibition space will be expanded by over 1,000 square feet.

Educational Art Studio: Three times more K-12 students will benefit from molaa's interactive art education programs in the new 850+ square-foot educational art studio.

Research Library: Our library will serve educators, students, scholars and the general public with its extensive collection of print and digital materials. It will be a definitive resource on contemporary Latin American fine art in the United States.

Film-Screening Room: Our 30-seat screening venue will feature educational films and documentaries about Latin American art and culture, award-winning films from Latin America and exhibition-related films.

Additional Upgrades: We are also expanding and renovating our lobby, retail store, café and administrative offices, and upgrading the museum’s art preservation systems.
