Manuel Rosen

A prolific architect whose work spans the Americas and Europe, Manuel Rosen has over 40 years of experience in architectural practice, including significant academic work as a professor at Universities in Mexico and the United States. Rosen received his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from National University in Mexico City, and is a registered architect in the United States, Mexico and Argentina.

Rosen’s Vision for molaa:
Two forty-foot monolithic rectangular arches serve as the primary theme and focal point for molaa’s new complex. The arches, one symbolizing Latin America and the other, the United States, were designed to reflect the encounter of these diverse cultures. They are also regarded as the metaphorical bridges that molaa provides to and from the Americas, and the idyllic unity of the Western Hemisphere.

Beyond the arches, small square openings envelop the museum’s exterior walls, creating a necklace of light as the sun follows its daily path across the sky. Floating beneath the arches, an expansive reflection pool celebrates molaa’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean.

To offset the rigidity of the angular structure, a cylindrical tower emerges from the reflection pool, and balances the geometrical equilibrium of the design. In further reference to the sea, custom blue and white tile adorn the cylinder, creating the illusion of soft waves rolling across the museum exterior.
