ARTIST LISTING

Pablo Cardoso Martinez

Born into a large family in Cuenca, Ecuador in 1965, Pablo Cardoso has become one of the most important contemporary artists in that country. This painting is from “The Me’s” series that was made at the beginning of his career. The artist utilizes a version of a self-portrait to reflect the ephemeral present, and thus the personal and internal problems that confront humanity. The artist is especially interested in gender problems and AIDS, and it is for this reason that in this work we see the representation of male and female organs, combining a traditional style of the self-portrait with parts related to biology. Presently, Cardoso is working primarily in photography.

El artista está especialmente interesado en los problemas de género y el SIDA es por ello que en esta pieza se pueden ver la representación de órganos masculinos y femeninos, combinando su autorretrato de estilo tradicional con formas relacionadas con la biología.
