ARTIST LISTING

Javier Marín

Mexican artist, Javier Marin, relies upon the human figure as the central subject of his sculpture. The artist states, “I work with the human figure in an obsessive way.” The artist seems to capture the figures in motion, as such the faces and poses project the sensation of experimenting with pleasurable torture. Marin’s artistic style draws upon the traditions of classical art, in particular the late Renaissance style of Michelangelo’s sculpture. In spite of this association with Western art, the material used for his sculptures is Zacatecan clay and demonstrates his link to Mexican traditions.
-----
